Help Preserve the MMPA and ESA

Take Action!

On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., the House Committee on Natural Resources will hold an oversight hearing titled “Evaluating the Implementation of the Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act.” These acts are essential for safeguarding marine life and preserving ecosystem balance.

The Endangered Species Act (ESA) and Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) have played a critical role in species recovery, including the Florida manatee. However, recent efforts to weaken their protections have raised concerns. A newly established Endangered Species Committee is reviewing exemptions for industries that could undermine conservation efforts. Additionally, some in Congress are pushing for legislative changes that would prioritize industry interests over wildlife protection, potentially endangering vulnerable species and their habitats.

The protection of our nation’s wildlife should not be sacrificed for the false promise of short-term economic gains. It is critical to uphold the integrity of the ESA and MMPA to ensure conservation remains a priority while addressing regulatory concerns.

Write your Congressman today to keep the Endangered Species Act and Marine Mammal Protection Act intact.
