Hernando County Fertilizer Ban

Take Action!

The Hernando Board of County Commissioners is considering removing the summertime fertilizer ban. This proposal comes just two years after the Hernando Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) unanimously passed the current ordinance, backed by strong public and expert support.

Hernando is one of 18 counties and more than 100 municipalities in Florida that have adopted strong rainy season fertilizer rules. Why? Because summer rains are when excess fertilizer is most likely to wash off lawns and into waterways, triggering harmful algae blooms. Harmful algal blooms kill off aquatic vegetation and fish and led to the loss of over 1200 manatees in the Indian River Lagoon. The rainy season ban is the most cost-effective and proven tool local governments have to prevent this kind of pollution.

Now more than ever, your voice is needed. Speak up today to defend clean water in Hernando County!
