Protect the Marine Mammal Protection Act

For more than 50 years, the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) has been the cornerstone of marine conservation. It prohibits the harassment, harm, or killing of marine mammals and ensures that populations not only survive but recover and thrive.

Now, that progress is at risk. Newly proposed legislation would gut the MMPA, weakening protections and redefining recovery as mere “survival.” This change would leave manatees, right whales, and all marine mammals vulnerable to extinction.
